Redefining Greatness

by Johnson Bowie
The journey God has set us on in this season is marked by two words: emancipating greatness! He wants to…
Sermon Notes

Genesis 1:27 NLT
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of
God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:28 NLT
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the
earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the
sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
1 Samuel 16:6-13 NIV
When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the
LORD’s anointed stands here before the LORD.” But the LORD said to
Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have
REJECTED him. The LORD does not look at the things people
look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD
looks at the heart.” Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass
in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this
one either.” Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said,
“Nor has the LORD chosen this one.” Jesse had seven of his sons
pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The LORD has not
chosen these.” So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you
have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending
the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he
arrives.” So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing
with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then
the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” So Samuel
took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers,
and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon
David.

You’ll never make it to the PALACE if you can’t be faithful in the

Two Questions We Must Ask to Redefine Greatness:
1) Who Defines Greatness?
The #1 question of our generation is, “Who gets to define me?”
Whoever or whatever defines us is our god.
Two Questions We Must Ask to Redefine Greatness:
2) What Is Greatness?
Matthew 20:26-28 NIV
“… whoever wants to become GREAT among you must be your
servant, and whoever wants to be FIRST must be your slave—just
as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to
give his life as a ransom for many.”
GREATNESS is living confident in who God made me to be, using
the unique gifts He put in me for His glory around me!
1 Samuel 15:17 NLT
Samuel told him, “Although you may think little of yourself, are
you not the leader of the tribes of Israel? The LORD has anointed you
king of Israel.”
