Preparing for Greatness

by Johnson Bowie
God is leading us forward into the emancipation of the greatness He’s placed inside of…
Sermon Notes

Genesis 1:27 NLT
God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God
he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:28 NLT
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth
and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky,
and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
GREATNESS is living confident in who God made me to be, using
the unique gifts He put in me for His glory around me!
Genesis 1:11 ESV
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed,
and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to
its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
You TEACH what you KNOW, but you REPRODUCE who you ARE.
Matthew 13:3-9 NLT
Jesus told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered
them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds
came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying
rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But
the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have
deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up
and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil,
and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred
times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should
listen and understand.”
Matthew 13:18-23 NIV
“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer
planting seeds: The seed that fell on the footpath represents those
who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it.
Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was
planted in their hearts. The seed on the rocky soil represents those
who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since
they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as
soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s
word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who
hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by
the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced.
The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and
understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even
a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
4 Types of Hearts

  1. Footpath
The enemy believes in the power of what God wants to do in your life,
    even if you don’t!
    4 Types of Hearts
  2. Rocky
Q // Do I have an excited faith or a deep faith?
    4 Types of Hearts
  3. Thorns
Q // What in your life is blocking your sun & stealing your rain,
so you can’t blossom for God?
    4 Types of Hearts
  4. Good Soil
    Ezekiel 36:26 NIV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove
from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
    Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand
in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but
whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on
his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by
streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf
does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
    Hebrews 12:1 NIV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin
that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race
    marked out for us…
When it comes to the fruit of our lives, the problem is never with
God’s seed; the problem is with our soil.
Healthy seeds hitting a healthy heart produce a healthy harvest.
