Hearing God

God, Is That You?

by Summer Bowie
To walk in the greatness that God wants to free within us, we have to hear His voice and know that He is speaking! How does He speak? Through His Word, prayer, dreams and visions, and words of prophecy given through other people. In today’s message, we’re talking about how to discern whether or not God is actually speaking versus our own wants, the enemy, or someone else’s narrative for our lives. It’s our desire that when you ask the question, “God, is that you?” that you would be able to hear Him clearly in the unique way He created you!

John 10:27-28 TPT
“My own sheep will hear my voice and I know each one, and they will
follow me. I give to them the gift of eternal life and they will never be
lost and no one has the power to snatch them out of my hands.”

“The one who does not expect God to speak will discount every
single time when God does speak.” – A.W. Tozer

God Speaks Supernaturally …
• Through dreams and visions

Joel 2:28 NLT
“Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon ALL
people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will
dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.”

Acts 2:17 NLT
“‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon ALL
people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men
will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’”

A dream is an occurrence when you are sleeping as a means of
revelation from God.

A vision is an occurrence when you are awake as a means of
revelation from God.

God Speaks Through Dreams and Visions:
1. To provide direction

Acts 16:9-10 NLT
That night Paul had a vision: A man from Macedonia in northern
Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to
Macedonia and help us!” So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there.

God Speaks Through Dreams and Visions:
1. To provide direction
2. To provide warning/insight

Matthew 2:12 NLT
When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by
another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.

God Speaks Through Dreams and Visions:
1. To provide direction
2. To provide warning/insight
3. To provide promise

God Speaks Supernaturally …
• Through dreams and visions
• Through prophecy

1 Corinthians 14:3 NLT
But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and
comforts them. A prophetic word should encourage and uplift you, not leave you feeling ashamed or condemned.

A prophetic word should affirm and confirm something the Lord is already doing in your heart, not leave you confused.
