Sermon Notes

Psalm 23 NKJ
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down
in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores
my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s
sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they
comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely
goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will
dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23:3 NKJ
…He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Influential Voices:

  1. Family
  2. Friends
  3. Education
  4. Our hearts
  5. Circumstances
  6. Public opinion
  7. Enemy
    Isaiah 53:6 NIV
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our
    own way…
    Proverbs 14:12 NIV
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to
    death.

Four Steps to Hear God’s Voice:

  1. HUMBLE myself and admit I need a guide.
    Psalm 25:9 NIV
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
  2. ASK in faith for direction.
    James 1:5-8 TLB
If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will
gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of
wisdom to all who ask him; he will not resent it. But when you ask
him, be sure that you really expect him to tell you, for a doubtful mind
will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by
the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you
turn first this way and then that. If you don’t ask with faith, don’t
expect the Lord to give you any solid answer.
  3. LISTEN for God’s response.

How God Speaks:

  1. The Bible
  2. Teachers
  3. Visions & dreams
  4. Spiritual impressions
  1. TRUST God when I don’t understand.
    Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your
    paths straight.
    Psalm 37:23-24 NLT
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of
their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord
    holds them by the hand.
