Sermon Notes

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJ
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 NKJ
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus
Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was
in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to
them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are
ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we
implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who
knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God
in Him.
RIGHTEOUSNESS: OLD COVENANT – Hebrew tsedeq: conforming to
God’s character; to be straight; to do what God says is right; to live according
to His standards.
RIGHTEOUSNESS: NEW COVENANT – Right standing with God; to be able
to stand before God as if you had never sinned.
Romans 5:12 NKJ
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through
sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned…
Romans 3:21-26 NLT
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping
the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and
the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in
Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we
are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this
through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God
presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God
when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This
sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not
punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and
including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to
demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he
declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
Romans 5:15-17 NLT
But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift.
For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater
is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this
other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different
from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation,
but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we
are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to
rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of
righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death
through this one man, Jesus Christ.
RIGHTEOUSNESS: “The ability to live in the presence of God without the
sense of condemnation, insecurity, or rejection.”

New Life with God:

  1. NEW POSITION
    Ephesians 2:1-10 NLT
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.
You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the
commander of the to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the
passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature
we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in
mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because
of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by
God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead
along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we
are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as
examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as
shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved
you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a
gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so
none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has
created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned
    for us long ago.
  2. NEW FAITH
    Mark 11:22-24 NLT
Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you
can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and
it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in
your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve
received it, it will be yours.”
  3. NEW DOMINION
    Genesis 1:28 NKJ
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill
the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the
birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
