Sermon Notes

Acts 13:22 NLT
“But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about
whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my
own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’”
CHARACTERISTICS OF A MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART:

  1. SEARCHABLE HEART
    Psalm 139:23-24 NKJ
Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my
anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in
    the way everlasting.
    Proverbs 4:23 NLT
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your
    life.
    Psalm 139:23-24 MSG
Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; crossexamine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; see for
yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—then guide me on the
    road to eternal life.
  2. REPENTANT HEART
    Psalm 51:3-12 NLT
For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you,
and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against
me is just. For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother
conceived me. But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me
wisdom even there. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash
    me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again;
you have broken me—now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my
sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O
God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your
presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the
joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
    Psalm 51:17 NLT
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken
    and repentant heart, O God.
  3. TRUSTING HEART
    Psalm 13:1-2 NLT
O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look
the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with
sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the
    upper hand?
    Psalm 13:5-6 NLT
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have
rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.
    Psalm 28:7 NIV
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he
helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

3 PRIMARY FEARS:

  1. FEAR OF MAN
  2. FEAR OF FAILURE
  3. FEAR OF LACK
    Psalm 91:1-16 MSG
You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in
Shaddai’s shadow, say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and
I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you
from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you—under
them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—
not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, not disease
that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high
noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right
and left, no harm will even graze you. You’ll stand untouched, watch
it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses. Yes,
because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home, evil
can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered
his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch
you; their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among
lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path. “If
you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any
trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust
me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue
you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long
    drink of salvation!”
  4. HUMBLE HEART
    Psalm 138:6 AMP
Though the Lord is exalted, He regards the lowly [and invites them
into His fellowship]; but the proud and haughty He knows from a
    distance.
    Psalm 86:12 NKJ
I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify
    Your name forevermore.
    Psalm 95:6 NKJ
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord
    our Maker.
    Psalm 100:1-3 NKJ
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with
gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the
Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we
are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
    Psalm 111:1 NKJ
Praise the Lord! I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the
assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
    Psalm 149:1-4 NKJ
Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the
assembly of saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of
    Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise His name with the dance;
let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. For the Lord
takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with
    salvation.
    Psalm 150:1-6 NKJ
Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His
mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him
according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of
the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the
timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let
everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
